Jug spout

This ceramic horse head is from a medieval water jug called an ‘aquamanile’, used for washing hands during meals. The jug was made in Doncaster, Yorkshire, and was discovered by archaeologists in Exeter. It is decorated with impressed circular stab marks and combing patterns.
