This photographic slide is part of series showing the process of diamond mining in Kimberley, South Africa and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The image shows a group of local workers with their equipment and clothing for working in the mine. The slides originally belonged to Miss Edith Aviolet, sub-curator of the museum in the early twentieth century, who had a special interest in geology and held public lectures on this and other natural history topics.
