Honiton (East Devon) lace infant’s bonnet
Handmade sprigs of flowers and leaves were added to machine-made net to make this delicate cap. Handmade net took a long time to make and was therefore incredibly expensive. With the invention of machines, the skills to make net by hand were almost completely lost in Devon.
