Rhizophora Tenby 1854: barrel jellyfish
This beautiful watercolour by Philip Henry Gosse depicts another jellyfish that can be found off UK coasts. The barrel jellyfish (Rhizostoma octopus) is a seasonal visitor to our seas. An almost exact replica of this watercolour is present in ‘Tenby: A sea-side holiday’ plate I and a line drawing of this features in ‘A Manual of Marine Zoology for the British Isles’ p51.
