Chrysaora hysoscella Ilfracombe 1856: compass jellyfish
This pencil and watercolour drawing has been attributed to PH Gosse. Compass jellyfish can sometimes be found washed up on Devon’s beaches (e.g. Woolacombe) and are easily recognised by the distinctive brown markings on the bell.
