Devon Landscape

‘Devon Landscape’ by Philip Hutchins Rogers, c. 1811. The landscape in oils depicts a hillside: cattle are seen of varying breeds with, near them, a boy who is reclined on the ground. Beside him a dog. In the left distance a river is part seen and beyond that hills. Hutchins Rogers was an English marine and landscape painter. Pictures by him are in the Munich Gallery, the Karlsnike Gallery and in the Strasbourg Museum. There does not appear to be a specimen of Rogers work in any gallery in Great Britain. The artist signs his pictures “P Roger” in round hand with the date. The painting is set within an egg and leaf with ball beading and husk chain decorated frame.
