Bishop chess piece
One of three Saltglazed stoneware chess pieces made by the Martin Brothers at Southall, London in 1901-2. This is all that remains of a full set of figures: a King, Queen and Bishop. Chess pieces were usually made by Wallace Martin at a financial loss to the pottery as the intricate modelling took so much time.
