Touch-Line: George Guy and Adam Reuben, Topsham Rugby Club
Arresting a moment in time, that precise second when something wonderful happens with light, landscape and the way a person is standing, has always been part of Michelle Sank’s work.
The Touch-Line project presented her with a challenge: to explore in still photographs a fast-moving game, an animated crowd, an 80-minute performance. Sank feels that her work has become looser during Touch-Line because of her subject matter – a player jumping for a ball, fans interacting in a stadium – has so much movement in it.
“ I’m using the frame of the image in a slightly different way. Things are coming into the edge of the frame whereas before they might have been cleaner within the frame. What I’m working with is not a static process.”
