Eurasian stone-curlew

A somewhat atypical wader that prefers dry, stony ground to shallow water, the stone curlew has remarkably large, yellow ‘reptilian’ eyes and a surprisingly melodious song. It is infrequently seen mainly because it is a nocturnal bird.
