Male soldier doll

This doll dates from the First World War and depicts a soldier in ‘hospital blues’ with his arm in a sling. This type of uniform was issued to each wounded soldier when he arrived at hospital in England, and comprised a single-breasted jacket with a white lining, blue trousers, a white shirt and a red tie. He also wore his own khaki service cap with its regimental badge. A label sewn to the side of the doll states it was “Made by Pt. Warren, 13756, 6th RW Surreys, SW Reg. Hospital II. Sold 4/6”.
