Mrs Hanford Waters

Lady Helen Mary Thomas, the previous owner of this portrait, believed the sitter to be one Mrs. Hanford Waters but efforts to uncover her personal history have proved fruitless. Meanwhile the provenance of the painting would suggest that she may have been a servant employed by the ancestors of Lady Thomas during the early nineteenth century, possibly a housekeeper or nurse.
