St Lawrence Church, High Street Exeter (print)
This is a colourised print of a work by Exeter artist Primrose Pitman (1902-1998). It shows Exeter High Street and focuses on St Lawrence Church.
St Lawrence was one of the churches badly damaged in the Exeter Blitz of May 1942. Just visible in the print is a statue of Queen Elizabeth I, it’s located in a niche above the porch. The statue was one of the few things salvaged during demolition and can now be seen in the Exeter Underground Passages visitor centre.
