Merletto d’Albissola del secolo lace sample

Merletto means lace in Italian. Point laces like this sample were all worked with bobbins on the pillow. They were made along the coastal area of Italy from Albissola in the west to Santa Margherita in the east. Although Bury Palliser dates this sample to the 17th century in her inventory, the style is more characteristic of late 18th and early 19th century lace.
