Merletto d’Albissola lace sample
This sample of black lace was collected by Frances Bury Palliser on her travels around Italy. It was made in Genoa where most laces were worked on the pillow with bobbins. Albissola is situated on the coast. Mrs Bury Palliser commented that this type of lace was made by the wives and daughters of local coral fishermen. It is listed in her inventory as Merletto d’Albissola which simply means lace from Albissola.
