Pot
Based on an old ceramic tradition on Fiji, the form of this glazed vessel represents a citrus fruit, however, it is broken. After forming the clay with a paddle and an anvil, the vessels are allowed to dry for a week or so in the shade after which they are fired in an open kiln. A glaze-like appearance is obtained by painting on a resin, makadre, from the kauri pine. The vessel’s function is to contain water which is poured into the hole at the top and poured out through the the spout which is missing.
