Old Flemish lace sample

Charlotte Treadwin presented a collection of lace samples, including this one, to the museum in 1868. This is a piece of Old Flemish lace, made in the late 17th century. At the time Belgium had long been revered as a centre of excellence for lace making. From Old Flemish, the Belgian styles of Flanders, Binche and Valencienne evolved.
