The Miser

‘The Miser’ by John Cranch, about 1830. This oil on canvas by Cranch depicts an interior: a man seated at a table clutching a bag of his money. Two other men have broken in; one points a pistol at the seated man while the other is just entering through the doorway. There is an upturned stool on the floor.

John Cranch (1751-1821) was a British painter from Devon who painted portraiture and historical scenes.
