This unusual image by William Weaver Baker shows a magic lantern slide with text that reads ‘The Buffet is now open for Refreshments: dancing will follow’. This writing has been produced by scraping away a layer of black background colour. It is related to slide 313/1977/120 which shows the buffet table set up for Baker’s 50th wedding anniversary in 1947, having married his wife Lilly in 1897. Baker mainly produced slides of buildings and objects in Exeter, however these slides show a more personal focus.
