Beach with an Old Breakwater

A versatile landscape and still-life painter, Tristram Hillier returned to the theme of the beach and coastline throughout his career. From 1946 he lived and worked near Glastonbury in Somerset but made regular visits to Portugal and Spain. His carefully prepared canvases were worked up in the studio from drawings done on the spot.
