Honiton (East Devon) lace edging

Very finely worked linen thread makes this early East Devon bobbin lace edging. The scalloped lower edge has a meandering design formed of leaf and flower sprays and random shapes joined by a variety of filling stitches as well as a vrai réseau net ground. This sample was once part of a treasured piece of lace and there is visible evidence of a darned repair.
