These spines are from WSM D’Urban’s collection. He notes that they are from ‘a female tree grown at Newport, Countess Wear [his home]. Planted 1850: seeds gathered in 1924. Several young trees have been grown at various times from seed of this tree. The seeds are edible & have a pleasant taste.’
