Thimble with lion and cartouche

This thimble is made from two pieces of sheet silver, one sheet for the body and another for the dome. It was found by a metal-detectorist and has become squashed through its burial in the ground over a long period of time. Thimbles are often decorated and this one shows a small animal figure, possibly a lion rampant, next to a cartouche probably intended for the owner’s initials. Four small holes have been punched through the body of the thimble.
