Beryl Newman, (formerly Beryl Trist) was a well-known portrait painter who also produced a wide variety of work including local and foreign landscapes, as well as religious studies. She was a Westcountry artist, originating from Lustleigh, near Exeter. In fact, one of her main inspirations for subjects had been the beauty of Dartmoor. A prominent member of the art community during her art career, she was notably a leading member of the United Society of Artists.
