Thorn carving

Carving of two figures from the thorns of either ata or egungun wood. This carving depicts a woman having her hair being washed by another woman.

Not a traditional Yoruba carving, but one created recreationally as folk art.

From a group of 6 carvings of village life bought by the donor when living in Nigeria in the 1940s-1960.
