Dr Hugh Downman, Physician and Author, Exeter, Devonshire
In 1771 Downman was appointed one of the physicians of the Devon and Exeter Hospital, a position he held until 1805. He also established a reputation as a poet, playwright and author. His best-known work Infancy, or the Management of children stressed the importance of breast feeding and proper examination.
