Anne, Countess of Dumfries
William Dalrymple, the 5th Earl of Dumfries had already commissioned Hudson to paint a full-length portrait of himself in 1759. Presumably the Earl was pleased with the result as he again engaged Hudson to paint this impressive image of his new wife shortly after their marriage on June 19th, 1762.
