Single chamber and spout

This ancient Peruvian vessel has an horizontal annular ring-shaped body. The water vessel is decorated with marine animal motifs. Its flared spout shape projects at an upwards angle. A Chimu potter fired multiple vessels like this one in a huge kiln and smothered it. The reduced oxygen changed the colour of the vessel to a grey/dark grey.

Annotation in Accession register: “Dug up from Aztec grave about 1839. Mexico.”
