Handcuffs

These are a type of handcuff known as ‘figure of eight’ because of their shape, and are marked with the maker’s information “163 RC 1944”. The key, which is missing, was inserted into the lock at the edge of the cuffs. They are one of four pairs of handcuffs donated to the museum in 1956 by a local shop called Colson’s, and it seems likely they were used for in-store security against suspected shoplifters.
