Oil lamp
This lamp was described by its collector as ‘Greek Delphiniform, probably of the 3rd. century B.C. Light brown with red glaze; longish spreading nozzle with square end, annular handle with two grooves; band of contiguous globules around discus with central filling-hole, and another band of globules partly around the bottom. 4.8 in. by 2.9 in. Variety of Form 51. From excavations at Rome.’ It was collected by Lieutenant Colonel Montague whose collection of over 800 classical archaeological objects is an important resource in the museum collections.
