Oil lamp

This lamp was described by its collector as ‘Roman, (Form 68), probably of B.C. date. Pinkish clay, 4.4in long. Looped border with globule ornamentation outside it, hole (for wick-instrument?) between filling-hole and wick-hole. From SYRIA’. It belonged to Lieutenant Colonel Montague who collected over 800 classical archaeological objects, which he bequeathed to the museum on his death.
