Oil lamp depicting erotic scene
This lamp was described by its collector as ‘Roman, of pattern found on Greek sites (Form 102, with a horizontal band on each side of discus). 2nd century after Christ. Brown glaze 4.3 in long. Relief: Lupinar subject. (Stevens’s 1929) Probably Corinthian. Similar to Broneer 1198. It may be early 3rd century’. It belonged to Lieutenant Colonel Montague who collected over 800 classical archaeological objects, which he bequeathed to the museum on his death.
