Mask of Demeter
This mask or fragment from a figurine shows the Greek goddess Demeter. It was collected by Lieutenant Colonel Montague whose collection of over 800 classical archaeological objects is an important resource in the museum collections.
The item was a votive offering, used as a gift to the goddess in return for answering a prayer made by the giver and was made of light red terra-cotta.
