Pyxis

A ‘pyxis’ was used by women in ancient Greece to store their cosmetics or trinkets. This pot is suitably decorated with scenes of a lady with her attendants.
This item belonged to Lieutenant Colonel Montague who collected over 800 classical archaeological objects, which he bequeathed to the museum on his death.
