Oil lamp depicting prancing horse

This lamp was described by its collector as ‘Roman, 3rd. century A.C. (sic). Circular, without handles, rounded nozzle. Red, unglazed; length 3.2. in. Relief: Horse prancing. (G. F. Lawrence, 2/9, 1927)’. It belonged to Lieutenant Colonel Montague who collected over 800 classical archaeological objects, which he bequeathed to the museum on his death.
