Woodland scene with cows

Francis Stevens was a landscapist and drawing master at Sandhurst as well as being member of the OWS Chalon Sketching Club. He settled in Exeter as a drawing master in 1817 and may also have been born in the city. His 'Views of Cottages and Farmhouses in England and Wales' was published in 1815 and included etching after drawings by other artists such as Samuel Prout. At the time of his death he was working on work 'illustrative of Exeter and his vicinity' . F C Lewis etched some of these drawings for in his own series of Exe etchings.
