British War medal

This medal (shown on the left in the photograph) was awarded to J55030 E.W. Lee ORD. R.N. The British War medal was awarded for service during the First World War, and was issued to both survivors and posthumously to those who died in action. Members of the women’s auxiliary force and staff at the military hospitals were also eligible awarded with this honour so it was one of the earliest medals to be awarded to women.
