St Nicholas Priory Kitchen

St Nicholas Priory is the oldest building in Exeter and was originally used by a community of Benedictine monks from 1087. Part of the monastery was pulled down during Henry VIII’s dissolution of the monasteries during the sixteenth century. The building was then absorbed into a mansion house.
The painting depicts the Norman cellar, which was used for storing provisions and as a kitchen. The room has a vaulted ceiling, paved floor and architectural detailing around the columns.
