Tray

This tray was designed to appeal to Western tastes. It depicts a famous and distinguished samurai called Kato Kiyomasa (Toranosuke), who fought many battles and who participated in the 1592 invasion of Korea. Kiyomasa had a reputation for hunting tigers with a spear for sport. The wooden tray is decorated with fragments of coral, pearl shell and gold leaf. Length = 770mm. Donated to RAMM by Sir Harry Veitch.
