Catalogue of Harry Hems and Sons

Harry Hems and Sons was a leading firm of stonemasons and craftsmen based in Exeter but working across the world. They specialised in ecclesiastical items including church screens and roof bosses, and used medieval examples as inspiration for their work. Many of Hems’ examples of medieval woodwork are held in this museum’s collection. This catalogue, dating from 1923 or later, provides examples of their work in England and far beyond including Canada and USA. It was donated to the museum by Mabel Bassil, one of Harry Hems’ daughters.
