Gold weight

Asante merchants used these weights to weigh gold dust when conducting trade. They were made using the ‘lost wax technique’ of casting metal. While the weight of the objects were standard, their shape and decoration varied. Many gold-weights, such as this one, were decorated with geometric patterns.
