Dunnock

The dunnock may be the most abundant garden bird in Western Europe. Yet it is often overlooked because of its cryptic appearance and discreet behaviour. In spring their melodious short song is heard everywhere, as the males sing from the tops of bushes. Their mating behaviour is highly variable and can be monogamous, polygynous (one male, several females), polyandrous (one female, several males) or polygynandorus (several males and females breeding together).
