European badger

The European badger is the largest surviving carnivorous mammal in the UK. It lives in extended family groups in large burrows, or setts, which can be very extensive. It is strictly nocturnal and is mostly seen on, or alongside, roads at night. Many become road casualties. There has been great controversy in recent years about the role, or otherwise, of badgers in the spread of Bovine TB in the UK.
