Two views of the Old Exe Bridge

The Old Exe Bridge depicted in these two drawings is of the second bridge over the Exe in Exeter to be built after the medieval one which has served Exeter since the thirteenth century. Completed in 1778, the Georgian Exe Bridge had three large arches and made a much more easily accessible route for carriages and coaches. The bridge was demolished in 1903 to make way for a stronger cast-iron and steel crossing.
