Glass crabs

This chalk drawing is by PH Gosse and was probably used as a teaching aid. It is annotated with the words ‘glass crabs’ which refers to the larval stage of certain species of crustacean. They are so named for their very transparent nature. It is similar to the line drawing of Phyllosoma commune on p146 of his book ‘A Manual of Marine Zoology for the British Isles’.
