Philip Henry Gosse (1810-1888) was a zoologist who drew illustrations of the natural world, and he is most especially known for his book and illustrations of aquariums and sea life. His books were a part of Victorian interest into the natural world. Gosse spent his later life in St Marychurch, South Devon. The museum has many of his scale drawings of sea life, some of which relate directly to his publications.
