Portrait of Samuel Cousins
Cousins produced dozens of portrait mezzotints during his career. This print, the last one he ever engraved, reproduces his portrait painted by Edwin Long. The print shows Cousins preparing a mezzotint plate by scraping it with a rocker. In the lower margin, other printmaking tools are visible.
Long’s painting is also in the collection at RAMM (46/1925/14).
