Sculpture fragment with cuneiform
When this stone object was donated to the museum it was thought to be part of an inscribed cone used as a building dedication in ancient Mesopotamia. Recent research has revealed it is actually part of a sculpture of a deity or king. The text has reads ‘To (the goddess) Bau the good lady daughter of (the god An) his lady, Gudea governor of Lagash’.
