Crest mask (Gẹlẹdẹ)

Gẹlẹdẹ masquerade is an afternoon visual feast that appeases the power of àjẹ or ‘the mothers’. This mask depicts a male-looking face with an elaborate hairstyle. The mask shows no sign of use.

F.P. Pinkett probably acquired his masks from the market or the carver’s workshop 1895 - 1911.
