Puzzle jug
Although inscribed with a date, 1789, we do not know where this puzzle jug was made. It may have been made in Ewenny in Wales, or in North Devon. It is decorated in the slip ware tradition. Much of the original layer of slip (thin clay) on the surface of the jug has been worn away but you can now see how deeply the decorator has scratched into the surface to make the patterns and to incise the date and the initials T. D.
