Oil lamp

This oil lamp was excavated by the Egypt Exploration Fund in 1904 from the Romano-Egyptian site at Heracleopolis Magna, or Ihnasya al-Medinah. It is one of 45 objects donated to this museum from the excavation. At that time it was typical for ‘common’ types of object to be given to regional museums in Britain amid the public interest in ancient Egypt. This lamp is decorated with images of fruit and flowers.
